The Academy for Preparing Prospective Leaders in Education (A.P.P.L.E.) is proud to announce their 17th year at La Mirada High School. We are the first academy at La Mirada High School, and we continue to make strides toward meeting the needs of our college and career ready students. Our APPLE Academy offers over 250 hours of hands-on experience that is built into the students' schedules, which no other academy offers, and APPLE prepares students for careers working with children, such as the following: teachers, school counselors, psychologists, social workers, specialists, etc. APPLE Academy also completes a highly intensive community service group project that is competed at the National level for SkillsUSA. In addition, La Mirada High School APPLE Academy articulates with Cerritos College for their Teacher Track program. If a senior APPLE student passes Introduction to Education CPA course with a B or higher, they can waive the EDEL 100 course at Cerritos College. We work closely with Cerritos College and California State University of Long Beach to help students smoothly transition into college, but students may attend any college where they meet the requirements of that particular college. The academies provide La Mirada students with more opportunities for community service and career training, and I highly encourage every student to find an academy of interest and join! Furthermore, we offer study field trips, guest speakers, movie nights, college tours, fundraising, and other activities that help to support and nurture our students.
