Letters of recommendation from a teacher, counselor and/or administrator are required by most private/independent colleges/universities, scholarship organizations, and even some UC’s.
Tips for Requesting a Letter of Recommendation
- Request it at least two weeks in advance to give the recommender sufficient time to write the letter and be mindful of holiday breaks, which may delay your request and may affect your college application deadline.
- Provide the recommender with your Senior Biographical Data or “Senior Brag Sheet,” a current resume or a detailed list of your academic and extracurricular accomplishments.
- Provide insightful, descriptive comments and reflections pertaining to your academic achievement and extracurricular accomplishment. Be sure to explain why these activities have propelled you to be an academic scholar and/or a community leader.
