Classroom Tour

The current La Mirada Engineering room was remodeled during the Summer and Fall of 2018. The room was originally an auto-shop, which somehow turned into a computer lab. Later, it was shared by the first engineering classes and the Career Tech Ed Forensics classes. Around 2013 a number of factors aligned and both interest and funding became available.

The $100,000 budget disappeared quickly but was enough to provide a vastly improved engineering room and makers space.

Let's start the tour, The Plans...

plans
The planning stage was the most fun. Who doesn't like shopping?

The Construction

room 01

Demolition unearthed a few surprises like 4"x4" steel post cemented into the floor and electrical conduits where we didn't expect them.

room 02
Inefficient dead end rows caused congestion, isolation and stifled collaboration, but that's nothing a sledge hammer can't fix.

room 03
With the room gutted and tile removed the floors were surfaced and readied for wax. Next step, electrical and network upgrades.

furniture 01
The new furniture is awesome! simple, functional, and each steel and maple top table can hold 20,000 lbs!  #bringitearthquakesjk

finished 01
I think it was November of 2018 when we were finally able to use the room. We spent the rest of the year figuring out the new equipment and finding the best ways of organizing our supplies.

Our New Maker Space, "Let me Show You it's Features!"
